An appliqué is a smaller ornament applied to another surface. It is usually one piece. Appliqué is a surface pattern that is used to decorate an aspect of a garment or product. Appliqué refers to using fabric shapes/designs usually on the trim of a garment. This can either be sewn or glued. Many appliques are more often imported from China and used here to keep costs down. It is highly used with the Textiles industry specially in apparel industry. So calculation of applique consumption for garments specially knit garments is important work for merchandisers.

How do calculate applique garments:
Here I will discuss about how do calculate applique consumption for knit garments.

Applique length = 25 cm
Applique width = 15 cm
Fabric Gsm = 160
Wastage = 25%

Calculation Formula:
Length × Width × GSM × 12 / 10000000 + Wastage%

= 25 × 15 × 160 × 12 / 10000000 + 25%

= 0.09 kg per dozen (consumption of the applique)
